BARGELLO

1977

My interest in knitting, crochet, and bargello influenced my paintings. I made many knitted and crocheted garments and blankets from the time I was a teenager through 2010 when I stopped. Bargello, a form of Florentine needlework that uses a vertical stitch, drew my attetion in the late 1970’s when I decided to make some pillow covers. There are traditional Bargello patterns but my work is an adaptation of these traditional patterns. The thinking involved in fitting together different elements of the design relates to my painting process. Included here are some of my Bargello canvasses.
